With Crabplace.com starting out of Greg’s house it’s no surprise that he was the company’s first Customer Service Agent. When available, and often in between doing other work, Greg would answer phone calls and emails helping people place their orders. When Greg’s brother Matt came on board, Matt took the helm of interacting with customers and making sure that they were satisfied, all while still shedding soft crabs and packing orders! As the company added more members to the team, customer service remained an all-hands on deck kind of thing. People would step out of their primary Crab Place role to step into help with the phones.
When Crab Place moved to their home location on 504 Maryland Ave, it was here that a full-time person was hired. Today our team has grown to include four fantastic members who work hard to ensure every customer is satisfied with their order. In 2024 the Customer Service Department was renamed Customer Relations to better capture what our team is all about. Communication with our customers has always been a strength of our company; we pride ourselves on getting back to people promptly, especially with email. The service we provide has allowed us to bond with our customers, whom we often feel are an extension of our own family. We have people all over the country (a few over the world) whom we have built relationships with through what we do, and because of this we felt changing the name from Customer Service to Customer Relations better captured the heart of who we are.
Our Assistant Director of Customer Relations is Mercedes Y. With a background in the restaurant industry and home health, Mercedes had plenty of experience with meeting the needs of customers. She joined the Crab Place team in 2021 after taking the pandemic year off to be at home with her kids. She has been promoted three times since joining the company and currently oversees Human Resources and Customer Relations.

“Customer Relations felt like a better fit than Customer Service because it really captures what we're about. We've really gotten to know our customers on a personal level (asking about their families, sharing stories, etc.) and for us, it's more than just taking orders. It's pretty amazing how many connections we've made all over the US. It's like we've made friends with our customers. And that's what sets us apart from the competition – we’re a business but at the end of the day, it’s about more than that; it's about building trust and genuine relationships with our customers.”
