To truly appreciate the Boat Docking event, it’s essential to understand the people who make it special. One notable figure is Jamie Marshall, a respected waterman who plays a significant role in the community and the Crisfield Boat Docking as a whole. Jamie also is the person who pilots our very own Crab Place vessel in this competition and more often than not, takes the championship home!

With years of hands-on experience as a waterman in the Chesapeake, he's become a master of the craft, wowing everyone with his precise and smooth docking skills. Jamie’s got a real knack for navigating the tricky waters, and his impressive track record in competitions proves it. He’s not just about winning, though; his passion for and skill on the water represent the unique waterman culture he hopes to keep alive. Growing up in a family of generational watermen, you could say Jamie inherited his prowess from family lineage. In fact, in 1971 it was Jamie’s father, Dwight Marshall, who won the first ever Boat Docking competition and set the foundation for his family name to live on and continue this tradition. Fast forward to 2024, Jamie’s son, Seth, can be found competing in this competition alongside his dad to carry the torch forward. Jamie's passionate about bringing awareness to the heritage of a Waterman's lifestyle, and the boat docking competition is one way he gets to do that.
